Agenda Item: Territorial Integrity: The Case of Crimea

A single veto can freeze an entire crisis in place. In 2014, Crimea became the flashpoint that exposed this reality: a permanent member acting as both party and arbiter, international law demanding one outcome while political power dictated another. Sanctions were imposed, resolutions were drafted, and still the question of sovereignty over the peninsula remains unsettled a decade on.

The Security Council carries the weight of being the only UN organ with binding authority, yet that authority is only as strong as the unity of its five permanent members.
